My name is Karina Ruiz Garcia, but I also go by my stage name krg. I was born in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico and immigrated to Northern California where my fascination with nature and sustainability was ignited as a result of growing up in the beautiful and diverse surrounding ecosystems. I took this passion for nature and sustainability one step further through my studies, graduating from University of California Berkeley with a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science and a Bachelors of Art in Spanish Literature to fuel my love of art and literature as well.

Music has always been my companion from the start, whether it was being woken up by my mother’s classic Spanish ballads every Saturday morning during her weekly cleaning or my brothers teaching me the fundamentals of Hip Hop/Rap and introducing my to my all time favorite artists Daft Punk, I have always sought out new, exciting, and diverse genres to expand my knowledge and be inspired by artists of generations past and present.

During my undergraduate career, I took my love of music further by carefully-crafted playlists, DJ sets, and rare vinyls that I spent hours listening to on long, research-filled nights. I was fortunate enough to also enroll in a music production program during my undergraduate career and study abroad in Berlin, the modern-day hub of electronic music. It was here, playing with analog synthesizers, learning ableton, and being surrounded by the liberating club and artist culture that I was inspired to truly pursue my passion for music as a Disc Jockey.
